Crappie Fishing Circle Event March 19-22, 2026

I don’t know how to fully explain how good this Crappie Circle Event was.  And it wasn’t because we caught fish… because we didn’t. At least not many. But honestly, nobody on that lake did that weekend, so we were in good company.  What made it special had nothing to do with the fishing. This year we opened it up a little more. John Davis, our Vice President at Outdoor Truths, has a bunch of former Alabama football players still living in the state or ready to drive in, so we made room for as many as we could. They came, brought some friends, and then we added a few of my buddies from North Carolina… and just like that, we had a full house.

John hosted the whole thing, but Joe Demos may have stolen the show. He rolled in with the biggest smoker I’ve ever seen and kept it going all weekend. And then John topped it off with his signature crawfish boil. Sixty pounds of it. Nobody went hungry.

We had two teaching sessions like we always do, and I’ll tell you, this group brought it. Lots of great input, honest conversation, and I think we all walked away with something. That’s always the goal. Saturday after the lesson, we did our Bass Pro gift card drawing—so congrats to Steve, Lee, and Joe.  The rest of the time?

Fishing when we could…Cornhole games…March Madness on in the background…

But what I’ll remember most were the stories.

Sitting there listening to those guys talk about their playing days, their lives, and everything in between, was just fun. Real fun. And in between all of that, there were those relaxed conversations on the pontoons, or around the fire, where you get to know each other a little more.  It was one of those weekends you don’t forget.

 Next year, we’ll aim to catch more fish. But outside of that, I wouldn’t change a thing. So, thank you to all the North Carolina guys, the former Alabama football players, and other friends, who made this event one that will go down into the Outdoor Truths Hall of Fame.
