Trout Fishing Circle Event July 16-19, 2026

The Trout Fishing Circle Event never disappoints. This year was no different. The river was at its best. A lot of fish caught and a lot of stories around those fish, including Don Davis (host) making a quick trip to the clinic to remove a hook. He came back with 2 stiches and another memory. It didn’t hinder him from being a tremendous host. Without hosts, there are no Circle Events. And Don is a great one. We ate some great meals including some champion barbeque pulled pork. Joe Basham flew in from Midland Texas. When he is at any event, he is sort of expected to prepare some of his unbelievably delicious desserts. These are the perfect ending to our evenings. We had four new guys to this year’s event. Scott, Alec, and Jason all traveled from south Texas to join us, and they are already planning to return next year. And it was pretty fitting that Jason and Scott, each won a gift card. 

Don Robert was also a first-timer. He drove 16 hours to make this event! He gets the prize for the most dedicated. Also in attendance were Jason Mears and Dan Rhoades. They will be our hosts for the upcoming Dove event in September. Jason caught the most fish and Dan was with him to verify. Otherwise, we know about fishermen. LOL. Last but not least are two of my board members. John and Geoff. Geoff made sure everyone was taking pictures and John was not only making sure that we didn’t miss anything, but he also got to spend time with his brother who happens to be Don, the host.

And yes, we did play cornhole on the deck of the cabin, overlooking the river. It’s my favorite place to indulge in this activity.

I taught two lessons on Friday and Saturday and on Saturday we all participated in communion. It was also good to hear all the questions, thoughts, and input that everyone has around the cabin, on the porch, and on the boats. These are where the real conversations are had… and enjoyed. Circles really are better than rows. And Circle Events are my favorite Outdoor Truths activities. Now on to the next event and to more great guys and great conversations.
