I just got home from our first annual Dove Hunt Circle Event in Stephenville Texas. Like all of our Circle Events, we built this one to last for years to come. Jason Mears is the host, and he did a top-shelf job. I’ve known Jason for years, and I knew he would have this event organized and ready. Not only did we eat well, but we estimate we dropped about 60 doves during our two days of hunting. And I’m pretty sure I was the worst shooter there. New to our Circle Events were Bill Tentoni, Will Phillips, Mike Winn, and Dan Rhodes. It was a privilege to meet them and to spend some time hanging out with them as well. Will and Bill drove all the way from Tennessee. Mike and Dan are Texas guys and friends of Jason. This was Aaron Herrera’s 3rd time at an event, and you could tell he had hunted doves before. He might be the weekend winner for the most fallen doves. Bill was pretty impressive because this was his first time hunting doves, while Will was a veteran at all kinds of hunting. Ray McKinney is my board member and attended this event. He also sweetened the deal by providing a fishing trip for Mike who won that opportunity in a draw. He also won our gun! Ray cleaned 22 fish for Mike to take home with him. They caught even more. I liked hanging out with everyone. Dan’s humor and his and Jason’s shared experiences were especially memorable. I also appreciate the input that each man had during our lessons. They are my kind of guys. Bill is already ready for crane hunt and I’m hoping others will find another event to attend.

Each day, we started with a light breakfast and then traveled to the dove field. Around 9:30, we came back to our lodge, ate, rested, and then had our lesson. After that, we spend the time, playing cornhole, while some fished and hunted pigs that afternoon. The weather was hot. The flies were numerous. But the fun was over the top.
