Our Gene’s Trout Fishing Trip Event was held in Salesville, Arkansas, in July 25-28, 2024.

Another Circle Event at Gene’s Trout Resort is in the books.

Gene’s Trout Resort in Arkansas has been our destination for trout fishing for a few years now. The cabins there can hold our dozen men and give us plenty of room to hang out between our fishing trips. This trip was a little different, but it produced exactly what we had hoped for – a great time with some veteran attenders and a few new ones that were introduced to Outdoor Truths. It was a father-son event for Joe Basham and his son, Joe, as well as for Kenny Davis and his son Nick. Both sons caught the biggest fish of the weekend, with Nick topping everyone with a 21-inch Rainbow. We fished in the mornings and evenings and had our lessons in the middle of the day. Don and John served up some great meals along with the special desserts that Joe always makes. We ate good! Casey brought another first-timer, Buck. They are life-long friends. Casey and I shared a boat, while Buck was guided by John. I’m not sure, but a think Casey and I might have led in the number of fish caught by everyone. I’m not sure about that, but since no one counted, we’re gonna claim that victory.

In the evenings, we of course had to bring out the cornhole boards. It was good to see that Buck, Joe, and Nick (all of our new ones) were as eager as I was to play- and to play to win. But none of us were as fired up to play more than Darrell. He couldn’t let it go. He wanted to play all night. (This is an inside joke for those that were there. LOLOLOLOL.) We love Darrell and he’s always a staple at these events.

In my lessons, I always try to encourage guys in their faith – no matter if they are mature believers or are a little unsure about where they are in their walk with God. I not only want them to know the love of God, but that God is fan of theirs, and that our perfection is not a prerequisite for sonship or service. We are all cracked pots that are just trying to let the light of God shine through those cracks. These guys are good at that.
