Our Gene’s Trout Fishing Trip Event was held in Salesville, Arkansas, in July 17-20, 2025.

Genes Trout Resort has always been a top place to do a Circle Event. We especially love the roomy cabin and front deck. Our cornhole games last late at night because of this convenience. This event had some last-minute health cancellations, so nine guys showed up in Arkansas to take on the Norfork River and the trout that hide in its waters. This was Baylor, Matt, Jeff, and Andy’s first Outdoor Truths event. Andy, like Baylor, are old friends of mine. Andy is from Texas and Baylor from Tennessee. Andy and Jason (also old friends) caught the most fish. They supplied most of the fish for our Saturday night fish-fry. Jeff (J) was also new. He came with his dad, Lee. Lee has become a fan of the ministry over time. We baptized him a couple of years ago at another event. J brimmed with excitement. He never missed an opportunity to wet a line, whether that was with dad or not.

Don is the patriarch of this place and the host of the event. He knows the river and has fished the Norfork several times. And he is a great host. He is also John’s brother and since they live in different states, this event gives them another chance to get together and have a friendly wager for big fish. Baylor and I never fished too hard. The very first morning we were there, Andy and Jason’s boat motor stopped working and we all had to go into rescue mode. And in the process Baylor stuck a hook barb in his figure that needed some kitchen surgery. After that, I think we were just satisfied to hang around and fish from the dock. And then there’s Matt. What can I say. This was my first time meeting Matt. He’s an old friend of Johns… and the life of the party. I can see why. He and I hit it off almost immediately. He likes talking trash as much as I do.

As I do at all these events, I taught twice. What was special about these lessons was not so much as to what I said, but to the conversations they led to at other times during the weekend. It’s for this reason; we try to keep these events to no more than 12 guys. The input these guys have from experiences in their own lives gives us all encouragement in our faith. I hope you will find a way to make a Circle Event in 2026. We’re adding more.
